Layers is an upholstery textile collection designed by the acclaimed Dutch industrial designer Hella Jongerius in collaboration with Maharam, Kvadrat’s international partner.
Inspired to create textiles that yield varying effects when viewed from different angles, Hella Jongerius and the Maharam Design Studio conducted trials with various techniques, such as needle-punching, embossing industrial felt, lamination and laser-cut stenciling. After extensive prototyping involving a range of woven and non-woven materials, Jongerius and the Maharam Design Studio conceived a method
to bind multiple layers of wool felt with embroidery to create dimension. Layers is a product of this innovation.
